A great photographer knows how to take an image using the tools that he or she has at their disposal. Choose the right tool for the right job.

Cameras

With so many great brands in the current market, it can be overwhelming choosing the right one for you. I have found what matters most isn’t the technical specs but how the camera feels in my hands and how well I can navigate the menu system. Try as many as you can before you but and know that whatever you choose, it is going to make great images if you do your part.

Lenses

From fast primes to slow zooms, lenses are as much a functional choice as an artistic one. What works well for Sports and Wildlife photographers may not be the best choices if you focus on Fashion or Landscapes. All of this is discussed in my articles page but if you want to skip directly to what I am currently using, click one of the “Full List” buttons on this page.

Tripods/Support

If I could tell a new photographer only one thing about choosing a tripod it would be this: buy once, cry once. It pays to have the sturdiest and most reliable support that you can afford. I went through three lower models before finally investing in what I use today.

Bags

I honestly believe that this is one of the most personal choices a photographer will have to make. No bag will be the “best” for everyone. From how it fits and rides with a load in it, to the right amount of storage and how the internals can be configured, this will be a process of trial and error for most. See my articles section for the different bags that I have used.

Post Processing

Mac or PC? Capture One or Lightroom? A lot of times the answer to this question comes down to budget. There is no wrong answer and what works for you is what matters the most. I have used all of the above and find that the Adobe Suite of products on an iMac suites my needs perfectly. Others have a better experience using a PC so again, it depends on you.

Accessories

From clothing to filters, cleaning kits to lens wraps, the amount of accessories that I have accumulated is staggering. See what I use by clicking one of the “Full List” buttons on this page or head on over to the articles section where I will be discussing some of my favorite pieces of kit.
